Fuji Xerox Osaka Wins Award in Eco Drive Contest 2009

Fuji Xerox Osaka Co., an Osaka-based sales company of the major Japanese office equipment maker Fuji Xerox Co., announced on December 2, 2009, that it won the Director of the Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency Award in the "Eco Drive" Contest 2009, organized by the Ministry of the Environment and the Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency.

In order to improve the fuel efficiency of its 344 commercial vehicles, the company conducted an in-house contest and study meetings to help motivate its employees and encourage the practice of eco driving techniques, such as gradual acceleration and reduced engine idling. As a result, the company reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 179.38 tons, saving 77,653 liters of gasoline (equivalent to 11.43 million yen or about US$124,000) over the course of two years from April 2007 to March 2009, as compared to 2006.

The Ministry of the Environment announced on November 17, 2009, that 9,733 business institutions, 146,287 vehicles and 330,033 people applied for the contest. Among these, one participant won the Minister of Environment Award, two participants won the Director of the Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency Award, two participants won the outstanding performance award, and 33 participants won other prizes.
