Toyota Motor Corp. has formulated its Fourth Environmental Action Plan for fiscal year (FY) 2006 through FY 2010, and publicly revealed the plan on May 13, 2005. The five-year plan outlines various activities in the areas of development/design, procurement/production/logistics, and sales/recycling, based on an assessment of the environmental issues expected to be most pressing between 2020 and 2030.

To contribute to the development of a sustainable society while striking a balance between corporate growth and society, Toyota will focus on such approaches as: understanding CO2 emissions and reducing them on the global scale; reinforcing environmental management being carried out by business partners, including affiliated companies, suppliers, dealers and overseas distributors; reducing potentially harmful substances in accordance with global standards, and enhancing collaborations with the society at large.

One of the goals set in this plan is to achieve a 20 percent reduction of CO2 emissions compared to FY 2001 per sales unit through coordination of production worldwide. To achieve this goal, Toyota will specifically strive to 1) introduce into society a transportation system that utilizes Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in order to create harmonious relationships among cars, traffic infrastructure and people, and 2) improve transportation flows in cooperation with relevant organizations.

Toyota's First Environmental Action Plan was launched in February 1993, its second in April 1996, and its third in April 2000. This Third Environmental Action Plan will be in effect until the end of FY2005, and all its goals are expected to be met before the start of the Fourth Action Plan.
