Tokyo Metropolitan Government to Create Solar Roof Register in FY2013

Keywords: Local government Renewable Energy

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced on January 6, 2013, its intention to create a register of solar roofs for wider adoption of photovoltaic (PV) generation.

For calculation of electric generating capacity and the economic benefits of implementing PV systems, the government hired professional companies to check roof conditions, including roof area and tilt angle. The government plans to develop a solar roof register system within FY2013, which will enable building owners in all parts of Tokyo to access information via the Internet on electric generating capacity and the economic benefits of installing PV systems on their rooftops.

In the four leading PV generation countries of Europe, such as Germany and Switzerland, about 90 municipalities have introduced a solar roof register system.
