Fujitsu Ltd. announced July 18, 2012, the launch of its innovative "Akisai" Internet cloud-based service for the food and agricultural industries, a first, to provide comprehensive support in all aspects of agricultural management, including production, administration, and sales for the outdoor farming, horticulture, and stockbreeding industries. The services will be launched in stages.

Beginning in October, as the initial stage in its release, Fujitsu will provide an SaaS-based (software as a service) solution for agricultural production management for both agriculture and food-related industries, as well as an innovation support service that uses data in managing and problem-solving in agricultural operations.

Fujitsu is offering two services: production management for large-scale farmers and intensive management for food-related industries. The first uses mobile devices and sensors to collect and store data on things such as production operation results and growth, in the cloud, which enables customers to easily visualize quality and cost figures. The intensive management service centrally manages data, dealing with things such as production schedules and harvest volumes from contract farm product suppliers, allowing more efficient procurement for food-related industries.

The two services are available at prices starting at 40,000 yen per month (about U.S.$506) and 100,000 yen per month (about $1,266), respectively. Fujitsu aims to achieve cumulative sales of 15 billion yen (about $18.99 million) and attract 20,000 customers by fiscal 2015.
