Japan's Biomass Market Estimated to Approach 257.9 Billion Yen in FY2015

Keywords: Non-manufacturing industry Renewable Energy

Fuji Keizai Co., a Japanese marketing research firm, announced on January 16, 2012, that they predict Japan's biomass market size to reach 257.9 billion yen by fiscal 2015, a 211.7 percent increase from fiscal 2010. The market size represents both the Japanese firms in the world market and the foreign firms in the Japanese market. The analysis is based on surveys conducted from August to November of 2011.

The total market includes biomass technologies (devices and plants) at 81.3 billion yen (211.2% of FY2010) and biomass-derived products at 176.6 billion yen (212.0% of FY2010)

The company notes that one of the factors behind rapid market expansion is biomass drawing attention as a distributed energy source since the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011. Other factors include support from the Law of Renewable Energy to be enforced in 2012 and concurrence between technical development and user needs.
