Misawa Homes Co., a major house manufacturer in Japan, announced on December 14, 2011, that its Smart Style "E" wooden house won the highest award at the first Ethical Awards sponsored by the Foundation for Earth Environment. Focusing its screening standards on ethics, the award seeks to promote more ethical lifestyles in Japan and abroad and raise awareness of ethical issues among the public.

Smart Style "E" was applauded for its ethical performance in the following areas: energy-conscious designs including effective use of sunlight, wind, and solar heat, as well as installation of energy-generating devices; application of flexible partitions to meet the demands of Japan's aging population; and a full support system for renovations.

Also noted were the company's efforts to obtain certification from the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC) and Eco Rail Mark, a certification for environment-friendly transportation, as well its initiatives to achieve zero emissions and waste at production plants and construction sites. The company's engagement in these areas contributed to its winning the highest award.
