A disaster relief project launched in April 2011 after the Great East Japan Earthquake, called the Tsunagari Nukumori (Connection and Warmth) Project, continues to provide electricity, hot water, and bathing facility services powered mainly by three renewable energy sources -- sunlight, solar heat, and biomass fuels -- in disaster-stricken areas in the hope of developing a sustainable society based on natural energy.

It installed solar-powered streetlights at sea ports in the Onosaki district of Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture as part of its goal of providing energy assistance using solar power. It also donated solar water heaters to city halls and elementary schools that serve as evacuation centers.

As well, it supplied a wood-fired bath facility to Kirikiri Elementary School (later moved to Kirikiri Junior High School), an evacuation center in Otsuchi, Iwate Prefecture, and a pellet stove for a community space in front of the town of Onagawa's hospital in Miyagi Prefecture as a way to provide energy assistance using biomass fuels.

The project is still requesting donations because of lack of funds to provide further assistance with an aim to utilize renewable energy for the revitalization of the damaged area.
