In honor of the United Nations' World Food Day on October 16, TABLE FOR TWO International (TFT), a Japanese NPO that fights world food problems, held in Japan a new campaign called "Supply One Million Lunches" for one and a half months, from October 16 to November 30, 2010.

TFT was founded in October 2007 to help alleviate starvation in developing countries alongside obesity and lifestyle-related diseases in developed countries. Their Table For Two program provides well-balanced meals in developed countries and donates 20 yen (about U.S.$0.25)--equivalent to the cost of one school lunch--to schools in developing countries for every meal sold.

The campaign gathered a large number of participants, including organic food mail-order store Oisix, major convenience store chains FamilyMart and Three F, karaoke store chain Big Echo, nationwide cinema complex chain 109 Cinemas, and commercial complex Caretta Shiodome. They sold TFT branded products and menus at their shops and restaurants, aiming to deliver one million lunches to primary schools in Africa.

So far, about 370 organizations including private companies, public offices, universities, and hospitals have introduced the TFT project, delivering some 6.4 million meals--equal to a year's supply of lunches for about 29,000 students--to schools in Africa.
