Haseko Corp., one of the leading condominium construction companies in Japan, announced on October 1, 2010, that it started installing a solar power generation system on the temporary fence at a construction site to illuminate the area at night to allow pedestrians to walk safely. The electricity for night time use will be generated during the day using solar panels. The power generated (direct current) will be stored in lithium ion batteries and used for light emitting diode (LED) lighting system. The company also installed a direct current electricity distribution system to efficiently use the power.

The first system was installed at a new building construction site in Fujimi 1st Block, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. One solar panel, measuring 1,500 millimeters long and 750 millimeters wide, provides a generating capacity of 130 watts.

Based on the demonstration experiment conducted by the company's technical research institute, the generating capacity of the system is estimated to be about 1,396 watt-hours per day on a day with four hours of sunshine, which adds up to 509.4 kilowatt-hours per year.

On the heels of this site, the company aims to extend the system to 60 construction sites in the Tokyo metropolitan area and 15 construction sites in Kinki Region by March 2011, contributing to local safety and also for protecting the environment.
