Weather Information Company Opens New Solar Power Generation Forecast Website

Keywords: Environmental Technology Non-manufacturing industry Renewable Energy

Japan Meteorological Corp., a private weather information firm in Japan, announced on July 13, 2010, that it has started a new website called "Sora-Eco." The Sora-Eco site provides solar power generation forecasts using a numerical prediction model system developed by the firm.

Based on the firm's solar radiation forecasts for municipalities nationwide, the website shows five values for the upcoming two days with illustrations: amount of electricity generated, amount of money from selling surplus power; the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions reduction; the weather forecast; and temperatures. By using a household account function on the website, users can visually confirm how much electricity is generated monthly or annually on a chart.

The website helps users understand how their efforts to reduce CO2 emissions contribute to the earth and their household finances as well. The users can register any town as "My Town" on the website for an easy access afterwards.

Through this website, the firm aims to increase the level of interest of users in solar power generation and eco-friendly initiatives, and to make them aware of the close relationship between sunlight and daily life. The website is free to use.
