Aeon Co., a major Japanese supermarket operator, issued the Hiroshima Peace Memorial WAON Card on Aug. 7, 2010. It is a prepaid type of electronic money card that can be used in WAON member stores at approximately 93,000 locations nationwide. The company will donate part of the proceeds to the Hiroshima City A-bomb Dome Preservation Fund.

Aeon issued the card to support the preservation of the A-bomb Dome, which is registered as a World Heritage Site. The Dome represents a historic witness that reminds future generations of the horrors and miseries caused by the first use of a nuclear weapon in history, and is a symbol of the drive to seek the realization of world peace and the abolishment of nuclear weapons.

On the front of the card is a picture of the A-bomb Dome, and on the back is a design with paper cranes. There will be absolutely no fee charged to the card user for making a donation. By simply using the card for purchasing products at a member store, the person can automatically make a donation.
