Keywords: Climate Change Manufacturing industry

Ricoh Co., a major Japanese office equipment supplier, announced on September 21, 2009, that it had signed the Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change. This Communiqué was launched ahead of the Fifteenth Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP15) in Copenhagen, Denmark, demanding the early establishment of an international framework on climate change.

The statement was proposed by an organization, Corporate Leaders' Group on Climate Change, which is represented by The Prince of Wales and is run by the University of Cambridge. It suggests the need to limit the average rise in global temperature to less than 2 degrees Celsius when compared to pre-industrial levels, and the need for developed countries to reduce emissions that are higher than the global average, as well as to provide the necessary financial and technological assistance to developing countries.

The company agreed to the Communiqué because it has great significance for efforts to curb the progress of climate change, for which human society should be making an all-out effort, and it complies with the company's attitude and approach to the issue.
