75,000 Barbershops across Japan Become 'Cool Biz Barbershops' by Setting A/C Temperature at 28C

The Japan Barbers Association, comprising barbershop owners throughout Japan, reported on May 29, 2009, that 75,000 member shops are participating in "Cool Biz" Campaign to tackle global warming. The association intends to raise public awareness of environmental conservation through grassroots efforts by local barbershops to combat global warming.

As a member of "Team Minus 6%" led by the Ministry of the Environment, each participating barbershop displays a "Cool Biz Barbershop" sticker on its storefront and operates the business as a Cool Biz barbershop by maintaining the indoor temperature at 28 degrees Celsius during business hours until the end of September 2009.

The association also presented 2009 Cool Biz hairstyles after collecting the ideas from barbers..The association has been conducting various campaigns, such as introducing cooling shampoos to provide a cool and refreshing feeling and calling for environmental slogans focused on curbing global warming.
