Green (Solar) Heat Certification System Starts

Keywords: Government Policy / Systems Renewable Energy

The Green Energy Certification Center, a branch of the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan, initiated the qualification and certification procedures for green (solar) heat equipment on April 1, 2009. This Green Heat Certification System is expected to contribute to the further installation of green energy equipment by allowing the trade of the environmental value of heat generated from renewable energy for private use.

Requested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG), the center has been examining certification standards in the study panel to realize the system. The system is expected to be used for the Program to Promote Residential Solar Energy Equipment, which the TMG intends to introduce.

The center expects the Green Power Certification System to contribute to promoting the utilization of heat from renewable energy sources, including solar heat. It will also consider spreading the system to other fields.
