METI Selects Winning Design for Green Energy Logo

Keywords: Government Renewable Energy

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced on May 29, 2008, its selection of the winning design for its Uniform Green Energy Mark. By affixing the logo to a product, manufacturers can advertise that their products are made using green energy under the green power certification system. The ministry aims to increase public awareness of its certification system and provide consumers with confidence when buying products made with green power.

The Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ), under commission with the ministry, collected ideas from the public for a logo design from March 24 to April 18, 2008, and 989 designs were submitted. The IEEJ's Uniform Mark Review Committee reviewed the entries and selected the design of Mr. Taku Tashiro for the grand prize.

The Green Energy Certification Center at the institute completed preparations for licensing the use of the mark as of June 2008. The certification center will provide consultation when companies request permission to use it to promote their products.
