The Japanese government appointed Hiroshi Okuda, Toyota Motor Corp. senior advisor and board member, as a special adviser to the Cabinet to further enhance its efforts on global warming issues on December 20, 2007. The government is aiming to increase its efforts to achieve the Kyoto Protocol targets, developing a post-Kyoto Protocol framework, and actively contributing to international discussions.
Okuda, also honorary chairman of the Japan Business Federation, or Nippon Keidanren, will plan measures to tackle global warming, participate in domestic and international discussions, and advise the prime minister on economic policies based on changes in the economic situation both at home and abroad.
