A Japanese organization to promote private businesses' energy and environmental conservation projects in China was established on December 21, 2006. The cross-industry group aims to transfer Japan's leading technologies in environment-related fields to China.

The group was established to strengthen cooperative relationships between Japan and China relevant to environmental and energy-saving issues, which the two nations' top leaders identified as crucial during a summit meeting on November 18, 2006. Also, at the Japan-China Energy Conservation Forum held in Tokyo in May of the same year, the two nations agreed that it was necessary to establish a body to promote energy and environment-related businesses in China.

More than 100 leading firms, including Tokyo Electric Power Co., Nippon Oil Corp., Toyota Motor Corp. and Toshiba Corp., have joined the organization as founding members. The Japan-China Economic Association, a group of Japanese business organizations promoting economic links between the two countries, will serve as the group's secretariat. To help Japanese private companies promote their high-priority projects relating to energy and environmental businesses in China, the organization will provide comprehensive, tangible and practical support, and also help remove obstacles to the expansion of such businesses, aiming to become a strong parent organization in this field.
