Grid Electricity of Kansai Electric Power Co., a major power utility in Japan, has been certified under the "EcoLeaf" program being promoted by the Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry (JEMAI), a quasi-governmental body under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

"EcoLeaf" is an environmental labeling program that provides quantitative information on environmental impacts of products using life cycle assessments (LCA), based on the ISO 14040 series, an international environmental standard.

So far, mainly office equipment manufacturers have joined the EcoLeaf program for their products such as computers and printers. Grid Electricity is the first intangible product to acquire the label in the energy service field.

With its newly obtained EcoLeaf, Kansai Electric plans to publicize its electricity as having low environmental impacts.
