Japan's Chugoku Electric Power Co. announced on June 13, 2003, that it would sell steam produced in its Mizushima Power Plant in Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, to the adjacent Mizushima Plant of Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.

The capacity of this coal-fired power plant is 156,000 kilowatts. Chugoku Electric Power plans to supply its neighbor with 100 tons of steam per hour, out of its maximum steam generation capacity of 520 tons. The construction of piping will start in August 2004, and the steam supply is set to begin in April 2005.

Chugoku Electric Power aims to increase the efficiency of its utility infrastructure for industrial complexes, and seeks to make the best use of its management resources by continuing to expand its comprehensive energy supply services such as electricity and heat.
