Japan's Taisei Corp., a leading engineering construction company, and NTT Data Institute of Management Consulting, Inc., announced in April 2010, that they have successfully achieved zero CO2 emissions from its Technology Center office building and its Sapporo Branch by taking advantage of Kyoto Credit Certified Emission Reductions (CER).

At the same time, Taisei launched the Taisei 1-ton Club, a scheme to encourage company members to buy one ton of Kyoto Credit to offset CO2 emissions from their daily lives. This is an attempt to concurrently achieve carbon offsets at both corporate facilities and in the daily lives of corporate members.

Taisei purchased Kyoto Credits in bulk for its facilities (800 tons per year) and for its 1 ton Club members (973 tons in total, all expense paid by members) and completed all the redemption procedures in April 2010. This is the first bulk CER purchase by a company for itself and its members in Japan.

Aiming to complete redemption to offset 6,000 tons of the company's carbon footprint from its facilities and from members' daily lives within three years from 2010, the company intends to contribute to achievement of Kyoto Protocol reduction targets.
