The All Nippon Airways (ANA) Group, a leading Japanese airline group, introduced environmentally friendly flights, called "e-flights," between Haneda-Sapporo, Haneda-Okinawa, and Narita-Singapore from October 1 to October 31, 2009. Through this campaign, ANA showcased its eco-friendly amenities and services, and publicized its environmental initiatives.

The campaign has been conducted each year since 2006, on specific routes and for specific time periods. During the campaign, paper cups and plastic bottles used on the flights are collected for recycling, and passengers on board are provided with eco-friendly amenities such as paper napkins made from materials blended with used green tea leaves, biomass-based plastic cups, and chopsticks made from domestic wood collected from forest thinning programs. At the airports, plastic bags used for wrapping checked-in luggage on the e-flights are collected and reused.

Ahead of other regular flights, e-flights offer passengers an opportunity to experience green amenities and eco-conscious services. ANA expects that feedback from the e-flight campaign will help the company to shift to full-scale provision of environmentally-friendly services in the future.
