Introduction to Japan for Sustainability

JFS Newsletter No.1 (September 2002)

We are very pleased to announce the Aug. 26 launch of Japan for Sustainability, a non-profit communication platform, with the mission of sending important environmental information in English from Japan to the world to in order to shift Japan and the world onto a sustainable path. The main channels to disseminate the information are our web site and monthly newsletter.

The web site (http://www.japanfs.org/) is already open, and there you can find many exciting developments and activities in Japan leading toward sustainability.

The contents include:
- New laws and regulations
- Emerging technologies in energy, transport and material reduction and more
- Corporate environmental initiatives that also boost competitiveness
- Local governments' innovative efforts
- Approaches and activities of groups and individuals hoping to create a better world
- And much more!

Please send us your comments on our web site and the newsletter and let us know what other kinds of information you would like to see here. We welcome your input to enhance our activities.

Japan for Sustainability is a membership-based non-profit organization with two chief executives, Ms. Junko Edahiro, environmental journalist, and Mr. Hiroyuki Tada, businessperson specializing in environmental communication.

Prof. Ryouichi Yamamoto, University of Tokyo, Prof. Tadahiro Mitsuhashi, Chiba University of Commerce and Mr. Lester R. Brown, President of Earth Policy Institute in Washington DC, serve as the directors for the organization.
