Keywords: Energy Conservation Government Manufacturing industry Non-manufacturing industry

The Energy-Efficient Household Appliance Promotion Forum was established on October 18, 2007, under the auspices of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Ministry of the Environment. The Forum aims to promote energy-efficient household appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators and lighting equipment. The Forum consists of home appliance manufacturers, retailers and consumer groups.

Its main activities will be setting up an official website, conducting promotional campaigns for energy-efficient household appliances, providing information on such products and developing diagnostic tools for household energy conservation. During an "Energy-Efficient Household Appliance Promotion Week," set up by the Forum from November 23 to December 2 in 2007, member companies conducted active promotional campaigns.

To provide information, the forum has launched a lecture program on energy-efficient household appliances with the help of the Nippon Association of Consumer Specialists (NACS). Experts trained in household energy conservation have been giving lectures around the nation since fall 2007. The Forum intends to give lectures at a total of 440 venues nationwide, and hopes to reach 10,000 participants during fiscal 2007.

Forum member companies will be continuing their efforts beyond fiscal 2007 to further promote household energy conservation.
