Keywords: Manufacturing industry NGO / Citizen Policy / Systems

Nissan Motor Co. announced on May 28, 2007 the development of the Nissan Environmental e-Learning program in cooperation with The Natural Step, an international non-profit organization for environmental education, to educate its employees about basic environmental issues. The e-learning program was launched in June 2007, and will be available to all Nissan employees worldwide.

Nissan's goal is to "raise its employees' awareness of the environment," and improved systematic environmental education is one of its activities in the "Nissan Green Program 2010", an environmental action plan announced in Dec 2006.

Environmental e-learning is a basic environmental program to provide the environmental knowledge Nissan employees require. Employees are thus able to learn about the key global environmental issues that Nissan is attempting to address: (1) Reducing CO2 emissions; (2) Cleaner emissions; and (3) Recycling of resources.

The Natural Step was founded in 1989 in Sweden. It is an environmental education organization that provides guidelines for companies, national and local governments, and academic circles to take action based on scientific grounds in order to realize a more sustainable society.
