Keywords: Food Manufacturing industry Policy / Systems

Mos Food Services, Inc., the operating company of the MOS Burger chain, acquired an environmental certification called "EcoLeaf" for its fresh vegetable delivery system from the Japan Environmental Management Association for Industry (JEMAI), a group within the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, it was announced on February 6, 2007.

"EcoLeaf" is an environmental labeling program that quantitatively shows environmental information throughout the product life cycle (raw materials, manufacturing, distribution, usage and disposal/recycling) using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) formula.

The company's food delivery system for lettuce, tomatoes and onions, which are used at MOS Burger stores, was certified under this program. The environmental impact is calculated from data on the consumption of energy, packaging and other materials used in the transport of each ton of food, and this information is available on the JEMAI website.
