Keywords: Government Policy / Systems Transportation / Mobility

Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport published "The Interim Report of Innovation Promotion Outline in the Land and Transportation Fields" on February 23, 2007. By making the best use of information and communications technology (ICT) in the land and transportation fields, improvements in quality of national life and the realization of economic growth are possible, with the aim of bringing innovation to the land and transportation fields.

This is an interim report of plans and ideas related to four fields and the results of a national review conducted since October 2006. The four fields are: 1) smooth flow of people, objects and vehicles; 2) realization of a safe and comfortable living environment; 3) promotion of community revitalization; 4) efficiency of social capital improvement/management.

For a final report to be published in May, the ministry plans two types of improvement. The first is to improve the contents of specific ICT projects. The second is to promote ICT land and transportation fields by establishing standards for social infrastructure.
