NPO "Eco-Plus" Promotes Hands-on Nature Experiences and Cultural Exchange

Keywords: Civil Society / Local Issues NGO / Citizen

Eco-Plus, a non-profit organization, was founded in June 2003 with the aim of supporting the creation of a community-based society by adopting a wide world-view, experiencing wild natural environments first-hand and taking part in respectful cultural exchanges.

Eco-Plus was founded with support from two other NPOs: Eco-Club and the World School Network. Eco-Club has been offering direct nature experiences since its establishment in 1992, and the World School Network has been offering global environmental education programs to children in Japan and other countries since 1994.

The main activities of Eco-Plus are:
1) to deliver a series of lectures introducing environmental education in other countries,
2) to implement the "Yap Island Project" in the Federal States of Micronesia; this project focuses on learning about the lifestyle and culture of the people of Yap Island,
3) to conduct "World School Networks Workshops," which provide practical environmental education for children in various communities in Japan and abroad.
In addition, the "Kids' Wisdom Base," an interactive online workshop, has been developed to share information about children's activities.

At the World EXPO 2005 (Aichi Expo) which began in Japan on March 25, Eco-Plus members coordinated interactions among people from all over the world in the NGO/NPO Global Village zone until the end of April.
