Kanagawa Prefecture announced on August 17, 2010, that the eco-friendly house "Green First LED-Kanagawa," constructed by Sekisui House, Ltd., a major Japanese homebuilder, went on sale in the prefecture. Standard equipment for the house includes light-emitting diode (LED) lighting, a charger for electric vehicles (EVs), and a power generation system compatible with both photovoltaic systems and household fuel cells. This is the first house in Japan to have these features. With these facilities, the 132-square-meter (40-tsubo) standard house can achieve almost zero net CO2 emissions.

Since its Cool Renaissance Declaration as a measure against global warming, Kanagawa has been striving to promote its "No Incandescent Bulb Project" to replace incandescent bulbs with LEDs, as well as the broader use of EVs. In support of the prefecture's efforts, Sekisui has been working to build and sell eco-friendly houses.

Sekisui submitted a paper entitled "Commitment to the prevention of global warming in house construction" to the prefecture in August 2008, in which the following initiatives are promised: to improve heat insulation specifications of all new houses to exceed the next-generation energy saving standard; to equip all new houses with high-efficiency water heaters as standard; to strongly promote residential solar generation systems and household fuel cells; and to maintain zero waste emissions at every new housing construction site (no waste sent to landfill, or no incineration without heat recovery).
