Yamada Bee Farm Corp., based in Okayama Prefecture, Japan, has increased the generation capacity of its solar photovoltaic (PV) system to a total of about 791 kilowatts (kW), as of the end of December 2009. The company initially installed a 60-kW PV system in its main factory in March 2000, and since then has added solar panels more than ten times.

This is the largest capacity PV solar power system installed by the private sector in the regions of Chugoku and Shikoku. It produces more than 790,000 kilowatt-hours of power annually. All power needed for lighting in the factory and its office is provided by electricity generated by 2,172 solar panels installed on its rooftops. The electricity is also widely used as a power supply for operating the factory and its computer system.

The company has been promoting joint research with the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and the New Energy Promotion Council. Through collecting and providing various data for the research, it hopes to contribute to the further development of photovoltaic technology.
