Keywords: Climate Change Manufacturing industry

Nissan Motor Co. released on June 22, 2009, a progress report on the Nissan Green Program 2010, a mid-term environmental action plan announced in 2006, and announced a review of a long-term scenario for the reduction of CO2 emissions.

The company estimates that a 90 percent reduction in CO2 emissions is necessary for new vehicle models in 2050, as compared with levels in 2000, according to the Fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which indicates that the world needs to stabilize the atmospheric concentration of CO2 below 450 ppm in 2100. Based on this estimation, the company will review a road map on the reduction of CO2 emissions in new models in order to formulate the next phase of the mid-term environmental action plan.

As part of the Nissan Green Program 2010, the company is taking the reduction of CO2 emissions very seriously, and has been working on a wide range of corporate activities, such as developing electric vehicles (EVs), introducing green diesel and fuel-efficient vehicles, and conserving energy at production and logistics sites, and offices.
