Danone Waters of Japan Co. and Sanyo Electric Co. announced on May 20, 2009, that they have jointly begun educational activities in Japan from June 2009 with the aim of teaching the importance of water. Danone Waters of Japan belongs to Groupe Danone, which owns the natural mineral water brand "Volvic," is engaged in the beverage business in Japan, while Sanyo is a major electronics manufacturer in Japan.

The companies jointly develop environmental education materials for elementary school children and start campaign activities on both brands' websites and at retail outlets.

Sanyo will donate part of the profits from its drum-type water/dryer "AQUA" to the Japan Committee for UNICEF for the "1 L for 10 L" Program between June and September 2009, the 4-month period of the program in fiscal 2009. The program started in 2007, jointly supported by Volvic and UNICEF, in order to secure clean and safe water. The donation will be utilized for activities in its recipient country, the Republic of Mali.

The amount donated by Sanyo represents about 10 percent of the target amount for the program in 2009, which will result in the supply of over 80 million liters of water in a decade (the amount used by 1,100 people over a decade, if each person uses 20 liters per day). During the program period, Sanyo plans to provide assistance grants to secure 5,000 liters of safe clean water for each AQUA AWD-AQ4000 sold; 5,000 liters of water is equivalent to the amount that can be saved when the AQUA AWD-AQ4000 is used for a month.
