Keywords: Climate Change

The rate of awareness of Cool Biz and Warm Biz was 94.3 percent (sum of "Knew it well" and "Knew it to some extent"), according to a survey conducted in November 2008, by Alibaba.com Japan Co., a company operating an Internet site to provide opportunities for business-to-business transactions. The survey was conducted via the Internet, and included total of 300 respondents (150 males and 150 females), ranging from the age of 20 to 60, with an annual household income exceeding eight million yen (about U.S. $89,000).

Other topics that had a high awareness rate included the Law for the Recycling of Specified Kinds of Home Appliances (89.3 percent) and Acid Rain (84.0 percent), while Carbon Footprints (14.7 percent), Earth Day (23.7 percent) and Zero-Emission (26.0 percent) had low awareness rates.

The survey, conducted in November 2008, also assessed the impact of green marketing on corporate image. The respondents received explanations about four concepts: Eco Marks, Carbon Offsets, Eco Points and Carbon footprints, regardless of the previous awareness rate. They were then asked whether they had positive feelings towards companies which offer customers products with labels showing the concepts. The results indicated that more than 80 percent of the respondents said "Favorable" (total of "Very favorable", "Favorable" and "Somewhat favorable") about all of the four concepts. Thus, it was found that these labels on products enhanced customer perception of companies.
