Keywords: Climate Change Manufacturing industry

INAX Corporation, a major Japanese supplier of building materials and equipment, announced March 4, 2008, that its Environmental Declaration in the 10th Medium-term Management Plan will be put into action from April 1 under a new organizational structure that includes a newly established Sustainable Innovation Department. While continuing activities under its Fifth Environmental Declaration (April 2005), the new declaration is aimed at strengthening efforts to address global environmental issues. It will be implemented throughout the INAX group, including its subsidiaries inside and outside Japan.

Believing that reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions to combat global warming is part of the corporation's mission, the INAX group as a whole aims to cut CO2 emissions by 19.1 percent by 2010 and 80 percent by 2050, compared to 1990 levels.

To achieve these goals, INAX will implement low environmental-impact "monozukuri," (manufacturing) by minimizing use of energy and resources. It also plans to create its own CO2-free systems and produce and sell more eco-friendly products, aiming to help cut household CO2 emissions by 50 percent. In addition, the company plans to help create a recycling based society by reducing waste and increasing recycling.

As a global citizen, INAX recognizes the importance of ecosystem health, and plans to promote activities relating to ecosystems conservation. Forest conservation and environmental education activities will be conducted by its employees in the Kaisho Forest of Aichi Prefecture and in Iga City of Mie Prefecture, in cooperation with the prefectural governments.
