The CARWINGS eco-driving service provided by Nissan Motor Co. won the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy Director-General's Award, presented on January 17, 2008 at the 18th annual Energy Conservation Prize ceremony. It also won the 2007 Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Prize in the Eco-Services Division of the 2007 Eco-Products Awards.

The eco-driving service available on Nissan's CARWINGS navigation system helps drivers improve their driving skills and behavior for better fuel-efficiency by providing audio and visual services such as a fastest-route search and eco-driving advice.

The fastest-route guidance system informs drivers of the quickest way to a given destination based on real-time traffic information combined with information from a statistical/historical database, via Nissan's proprietary software that projects anticipated traffic conditions. The system reduces commuting times and increases average traveling speed, leading to higher fuel-efficiency and accordingly, lower CO2 emissions.

The eco-driving advice service calculates the driver's fuel consumption patterns, and based on data sent to the CARWINGS center, publishes the fuel-efficiency rankings of CARWINGS members driving the same vehicle model on a website. It also delivers weekly tips on eco-driving, offering a fun and sustainable approach to changing driving behavior.
