Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Establishes New Sales Base in Europe

Keywords: Manufacturing industry Renewable Energy

On October 8, 2007, Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) established a European subsidiary, Mitsubishi Power Systems Europe Ltd. (MPSE), in London, England, in a quest to attract expanded orders for its power generation systems. Through its new base, the company is not only taking orders for constructing new thermal power generation plants, it is also promoting expansion of its renewable energy business, which includes wind turbines and photovoltaic power generation systems.

The company's 2,400-kilowatt (kW) wind turbine generator, which it first began marketing in 2006, has become one of its best-selling products. By May 2007, it already had massive orders from the United States, totaling 411 units, and ongoing inquiries from abroad. In response to such brisk market demand, it is increasing its annual production capacity to 1,200 megawatts (MW) by the end of fiscal 2008.

Due to aggressive subsidy policies throughout the region, investments in renewable energy applications such as wind turbines and photovoltaic power generation are robust in Europe. Based on its new subsidiary, MHI plans to swiftly and efficiently address these rapidly expanding market needs, and in the future will use it as a foothold to expand into the Middle East and Russia markets.
