OISCA Backs Overseas Trainees with Agricultural Training Program

Keywords: Civil Society / Local Issues NGO / Citizen

OISCA, the Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement International, a leading citizens' organization in Japan, is an international volunteer group established in 1961. As a qualified advisor of the United Nations, OISCA has expanded its activities not only in Japan but also in foreign countries, setting up branch offices in those countries. Main activities include technical cooperation and regional development projects, including human resources development for developing countries. They are also promoting a "Children's Forest Program" as well as planting trees in 26 countries and regions, to emphasize environmental conservation.

At OISCA Chubu-Nippon Training Center, engaged in developing human resources, trainees from overseas learn agricultural technology under a one-year program. Many trainees are challenged by the unfamiliar lifestyles and language of Japan at first, but a year later they are able to talk about their dreams in fluent Japanese, OISCA says. One of OISCA's important roles is also to build bridges between the trainees and OISCA members.
