Keywords: Chemicals Government

The Japanese Ministry of the Environment announced on March 31, 2006 that it has compiled data and results of the "FY2004 Environmental Survey and Monitoring of Chemicals" into the "Report on Environmental Survey and Monitoring of Chemicals, Chemicals in the Environment, FY2005" in both English and Japanese.

The ministry has released this report annually since fiscal 1974. Archives from fiscal 1996 are available on the ministry's website:

To raise public awareness of its efforts for more than 30 years to monitor chemicals in the environment, the ministry has also published the "2006 Guidebook for Citizens on Environmental Survey and Monitoring of Chemicals" (Japanese version only), which explains the results of the 2004 survey in plain language.

Free copies of the printed Japanese versions of the report and guidebook can be requested from the ministry's Environmental Health and Safety Division, in the Environmental Health Department. Postage must be paid by the person making the request.
