New Brewer's Yeast-Based Plant Activator Launched

Keywords: Eco-business / Social Venture Manufacturing industry

Asahi Food & Healthcare, Ltd., a subsidiary of Asahi Breweries Ltd., began selling a plant activator named "Hosaku Monogatari" to domestic agricultural producers in January 2006. The activator is produced from cell wall components extracted from brewer's yeast.

The raw materials for the activator are separated from the cell walls of brewer's yeast after treatment with enzymes. The roots of crops such as tomatoes or lettuce are dipped in dilute solutions of this yeast extract before planting or their leaves are sprayed with it during growth. The activator enhances the plants' inherent resilience and promotes healthy growth.

The company emphasizes that the product is safe and non-toxic for both people and crops, as brewer's yeast itself is both edible and benign.

Brewer's yeast is a natural material that contains balanced amounts of various nutrients, including B-complex vitamins like vitamins B1, B2 and B6, which play vital roles in human physiology, and essential amino acids, which are indispensable for human growth, as well as minerals and fiber. The company will continue developing new products using brewer's yeast as a highly functional raw material.
