'Warm Biz' Logo and Handling Rules Decided

Keywords: Climate Change Energy Conservation Government

On August 22, 2005, the Japanese Ministry of the Environment decided to give the name "Warm Biz" to businesswear fashions that are suitable for autumn and winter weather, and decided on a logo and its rules for use, at meeting of experts on August 26. "Warm Biz" conveys the image of a warm, comfortable business fashion that reduces overdependence on room heating, and aims to keep office temperatures no higher than around 20 degrees Celsius during the cool and cold seasons.

Warm Biz is part of the government's "Team Minus 6 Percent" campaign to combat global warming. Its intention is to remind the public of a time-tested but simple way to fight off the cold: just wear heavier clothing when the weather is cold, and don't rely too much on room heating. The nickname "Warm Biz" conjures up an image of stylish business wear, and the clothing style is designed to keep off the cold even if the room temperature is set at 20 degrees Celsius.

The logo depicts the letters "WARM BIZ" in black against an orange background. It can be used not only on business fashion clothes but also by any companies and organizations providing energy efficient goods and technologies such as air-conditioning systems and electrical appliances that help avoid overdependence on room heating, or by organizations contributing to the spread of information on wiser uses of heating systems.
