Mitsubishi Heavy Industry Ltd. (MHI) in Japan developed equipment to recycle up to 80 percent of wastewater from commercial-use laundry. The recycling capacity is 200 metric tons per day. The equipment makes use of bacteria that can quickly decompose organic material. With this system, wastewater can be treated faster and at lower cost than with conventional equipment. MHI expects to sell this equipment to laundry companies that provide clean bed sheets to hotels and hospitals.
