Suntory New Soilless Greenery Business on Market
Suntory Limited, a major Japanese beverage company, announced on February 25, 2008, that it would start a new environmental greenery business, "midorie" in March 2008, and would make a full-scale entry into the business. The company launched initial sales of the roof-greening system "green roof" and the wall-greenery system, "wall of flowers" in the Tokyo metropolitan area, and Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa Prefectures, and in the western Japan areas of Osaka, Kyoto and Hyogo Prefectures on March 3, 2008.

The roof-greening system "green roof" and wall-greenery system "wall of flowers" replace soil with Pafcal, a new urethane-based spongy substance developed by Suntory. These roof and wall gardens are lighter, weighing 40 kilograms per square meter, and can provide rooftop gardens in buildings that cannot bear greater loads. In addition, these systems have additional benefits, such as water retention, good ventilation, easy-care and inside installation.

With the full-scale launch of the "midorie" environment greening business, Suntory intends not only to alleviate the heat-island phenomenon and effectively insulate buildings, but also to encourage the creation of comfortable green spaces.
