Area Ratio of Photovoltaic Generation Facilities Increased to 75%

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) revised the Rules on Factory Location (public notice) on January 31, 2012, in order to relax the restrictions on area ratios for photovoltaic (PV) generation systems. Among the regulations in the Factory Location Act applicable to the construction PV system facilities above a certain size, the upper limit of the generation facility area has been raised from 50 percent to 75 percent.

The Factory Location Act is a law that requires specified factories above a certain size establish green areas and to limit the size of production facilities, with the aim of creating infrastructure appropriate for the factory location. Through the latest revision of the Act, generation facilities for PV systems can be expanded by half.

The targeted industry is electricity supply, and the relaxation of the restriction is only applicable to PV facilities powered by solar energy.
