Dentsu Group Launches Outdoor Sign Business based on 100% Natural Energy

Keywords: Non-manufacturing industry Renewable Energy

Dentsu Inc., a major Japanese advertising agency, and Dentsu Ad-Gear Inc., a consolidated subsidiary of Dentsu, announced on December 22, 2011, plans to enter into a business partnership with Zephyr Corp., which operates businesses in wind, solar, and hydroelectric power generation, on January 1, 2012. Under the planned agreement, the three companies will provide outdoor signs capable of being powered entirely by solar panels and small wind turbines.

As owner of the marketing rights for the outdoor signs, the Dentsu Group will be responsible for planning, design, sales, and production of the signs. Meanwhile, as the developer of signs powered by natural energy and unconstrained by circumstances surrounding the electricity supply or lighting time constraints, Zephyr will design the power-generation systems, develop the small wind turbines and solar panels, and supply the power generation equipment and materials. The companies expect a considerable reduction in electricity consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

The new outdoor signs will be designed to operate perfectly with the help of grid power in cases where adequate power cannot be drawn from the natural energy systems. The companies intend to expand the business beyond Japan to foreign countries.
