Sankei Building Co., a real-estate leasing and dealing company, announced on June 6, 2011, plans to start selling a condos at Lefond Inokashira Koen in July 2011. For the first time in Japan, the condos will feature a combination solar panel system and gas water heater remote control that enables power data display. The company expects that this combined system will encourage the use of renewable energies and action to increase energy efficiency and power saving.

Lefond Inokashira Koen, located in Musashino City, Tokyo, has on its roof six solar panel units installed for each unit, each of which are capable of generating 1.29 kilowatts. Residents can sell surplus electricity directly to the regional power company. Meanwhile, the gas water heater remote control provides a real-time display of the gas and electricity usage, rough indications of power charges and carbon dioxide emissions, allowing owners to monitor 95 percent of home power use.

According to an experimental study by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization, an independent government agency, energy savings of five to 15 percent can be realized by visualizing energy use.
