Japan's Global Environment Outreach Centre (GEOC), an environmental information center, held its sixth Eco-Volunteer Day on July 10, 2010, with the aim of creating a bridge between people wanting to take voluntary eco-action and environmental conservation organizations. Forty-one organizations, including Japan For Sustainability (JFS) -- from ten fields such as wildlife conservation, agriculture, city planning, and environmental education -- set up exhibit booths at the event site to provide information on their activities and recruit volunteers.

About 1,200 participants came to see the booth exhibits and attend hands-on workshops and presentations held by the environmental organizations. In order to make sure the event went smoothly for the many organizations and participants, a total of 19 students and adults who had been recruited beforehand as volunteer concierges and event managers helped interface between the organizations and potential volunteers.

According to a questionnaire sent out after the event, 16 organizations among 28 respondents were able to sign up potential volunteers, and more than half of the 42 participants who replied met organizations which they said they would like to join. The event gave a chance for organizations and potential volunteers to meet. Another outcome was that it also gave the opportunity for people in the organizations and volunteers to communicate with and motivate one another.
