Fujitsu Globally Expands Environmental-Impact Reduction Project

The Fujitsu Group announced on December 7, 2009, that it would globally bolster its Green Policy Innovation Project. The project aims to reduce customers' and society's environmental impact through green information technology (IT) and know-how on environmental activities that have been accumulated by Fujitsu group companies around the world. Fujitsu set a new global target to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by more than 15 million tons over the four-year period from fiscal 2009 through fiscal 2012.

To halve global greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, Fujitsu believes it is important for IT companies to quickly spread energy-efficient products and services in the global market. The Group thus plans to promote the expansion of energy-efficient IT infrastructure, outsourcing services at environment-conscious data centers, environmental consulting services to support more sophisticated green management and the world's first personal computer that requires no power in standby mode.

Fujitsu originally started the project in December 2007 with the target to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 7 million tons in Japan over the four-year period from fiscal 2007-2010. In the first two years through fiscal 2008, the company achieved a cumulative reduction of approximately 2.23 million tons of CO2.
