Yamatake Corporation Offers Building Owners a Tool to Break Down Energy Use by Tenant

Yamatake Corp., a leading Japanese manufacturer of measurement and control equipment, began selling software on April 27, 2009, that allows building owners to estimate heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) energy usage for each tenant.

Based on the April 2009 amendment of the Act on the Rational Use of Energy (also known as the Energy Conservation Law), energy management is now required at the entity level (e.g. company, municipality) rather than at the building level. Consequently, building owners are expected to provide HVAC energy usage data in addition to electricity usage to each tenant. This software is intended to meet this need. It is offered as an add-on to the company's building management system.

Data such as opening of the chilled/hot water valve and length of HVAC operation time are strongly correlated with individual tenants' HVAC energy usage. Utilizing such control data collected by the existing building automation system, the software allocates total HVAC energy usage to each tenant, enabling building owners to make highly accurate estimates without purchasing additional equipment.

Note: Sales of the software is limited to Japan.
