Car-sharing Stations Established near All Stations on Yamanote Line by ORIX

ORIX Auto Corp., a car leasing industry leader that offers comprehensive automobile services, announced on March 18, 2009, plans to establish car-sharing stations near all 29 stations on the Yamanote Line, a railway line in central Tokyo, to promote its car sharing business. These car-sharing stations were completed by the end of May 2009.

This is the latest stage in the model project that the company started on February 10, 2009, aiming to establish car-sharing stations near 10 subway stations on the Asakusa Line, in an effort to combine car sharing and railway. By setting up car-sharing stations on the Yamanote Line, including some large terminals, the company aims to dramatically enhance the convenience of its car-sharing system.

Considering car sharing as the fourth mode of public transportation following railways, buses, and taxis, the company is promoting the combination of car sharing and public transportation as a useful way to mitigate traffic jams in urban areas, to overcome parking problems, and to prevent global warming by reducing the carbon dioxide emissions.
