The Japanese Ministry of the Environment (MOE) released on April 8, 2009, a Carbon Offset Certification Label to be attached to carbon-offset related products upon being verified by a third-party certification agency. The aim behind the label is to secure the credibility of the carbon offset system and to promote the spread of carbon offsetting products.

The label is to be issued for products approved by the third party, the Certification Center on Climate Change (Secretariat: Overseas Environmental Cooperation Center, Japan). That is based on the Certification Standards of Verified Emission Reduction used in Carbon Offset by Third Party Certification Authority (Ver. 1.0), which the MOE compiled in March 2009.

Representing carbon dioxide (CO2) offsets, the label shows a combination of an arrow and the letters CO2. The labels come in two earth-toned colors, green and brown.
