2008 Energy Conservation Awards Announced

The Energy Conservation Center of Japan (ECCJ) announced on January 28, 2009, the winners of the 19th Energy Conservation Awards sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (MEIT). Out of 110 applicants, ECCJ selected three METI Minister's Award winners and other prize recipients.

The METI Minister's Awards went to a new eco-friendly all-in-one washer-drier produced by Hitachi Appliances, Inc., an air conditioning system for offices and stores made by Toshiba Carrier Corporation and an online eco-driving monitoring system developed by Isuzu Motors Ltd.

The award-winning washer-drier has adopted new drying technology that utilizes the heat of the motor and generates high-speed airflow in the drum. This technology reduces the machine's electricity consumption by approximately 75 percent and shortens drying time by about 10 minutes, as compared with older models marketed six years ago. The Toshiba air conditioning system features inverter technology that enables the machine to operate at high efficiency, even under low load. The system also has a heat exchanger coated with hydrophilic resin to keep water condensation from forming droplets on the surface. Isuzu Motors' eco-driving promotion system shows drivers which delivery routes they should take, as well as eco-driving and fuel-saving techniques.
